In 2018 the Florida Freewheelers donated almost $22,000 to various cycling-related causes.
A donation of $10 per club membership was made to the Florida Bicycle Association, as well as $3000 in donations to the League of American Bicyclists to continue their work advocating for cyclists at both the state and federal level. The club also donated to support the America Bicycling Education Association to complete its support of bicycling advocacy and education groups.
The club donated over 300 children’s helmets to Suwannee and Madison counties (where the Florida Bicycle Safari is held) and to the Clermont area schools (where the Horrible Hundred is held). The club also donated helmets to the Down Syndrome Foundation of Central Florida to support their iCan Bike event.
The club again in 2018 was a major sponsor of the Tour de Cure ride which benefits the American Diabetes Association. The FFW team was one of the top fund raising clubs with over $17,000 donated for the team. The Freewheelers also sponsored teams for the Champions Ride for Charities which benefits The Share Center and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, as well as the CF Cycle for Life which benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Think Pink Breast Cancer Ride. The club also donated to the New Hope for Kids Charity in support of their Christmas Kids Ride.
Additional donations were made to the Ocala Mountain Bike Association and the Southern Off Road Bicycle Association to continue their off-road trail development and maintenance programs, and the Ride of Silence to honor cyclists who have been injured or killed and to raise awareness of cyclists on the road.
